When importing videos from Vimeo to Wipster, which system does the processing?

Follow

We understand this is an important consideration for video makers. Often, the subtleties of video compression can make a huge difference to the presentation of the work, so we've put together a totally transparent explanation of what's happening under the hood when Vimeo and Wipster connect.

First and most importantly, if you import a video into Wipster from Vimeo, either directly from the Vimeo clip page or from the Vimeo Look Folder, Wipster will not re-process that video. Instead, it will import 3 different levels of encoding directly from Vimeo.

We do this because it's the fastest way to get playable video from Vimeo to Wipster and because we believe that Vimeo's encoding quality is best-in-class for web video, so you're in safe hands.

Consequently, the video you play on Wipster will look exactly as it would on Vimeo. The three levels we grab from Vimeo are:

Format  Resolution (px)
Standard definition (SD)  960 × 540
720p HD  1280 x 720
1080p HD  1920 x 1080

This is contingent on the quality of the original video that was initially uploaded to Vimeo. For example, if you uploaded a 720p video to Vimeo, then Wipster would only import the 720p and 540p encodings.

For this reason we recommend exporting your video using Vimeo's Compression Guidelines for the best result with this workflow.
